A Breath of Fresh Air: Smoke-free Multi-unit Housing Workshop

Tuesday, March 28, 2017 11:00am - 3:00pm

A Breath of Fresh Air: Smoke-free Multi-unit Housing Workshop

Location: Holiday Inn City Centre, 100 W. 8th Street

The Sioux Empire Tobacco-Free (SET-Free) Coalition, Live Well Sioux Falls, the American Lung Association, and the Carroll Institute are hosting a free workshop for owners and managers of multi-unit housing properties to learn how to implement a smoke-free policy.

The workshop will take place from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Holiday Inn City Centre in downtown Sioux Falls, and lunch will be provided for the first 50 registrants. Doors open at 11 a.m., lunch will be served at 11:15 a.m., and the program will begin at 11:30 a.m.  Three Continuing Education (CE) credits are available.

The Breath of Fresh Air workshop will provide attendees with information on current trends around the country, legal information about implementing a smoke-free policy, resources to assist both property owners and residents, and testimonials from local property owners and residents.

Encouraging more smoke-free housing is one of the goals of the SET‑Free Coalition and Live Well Sioux Falls because these policies allow tenants to enjoy their homes without being exposed to the deadly chemicals found in secondhand smoke. Secondhand smoke has been linked to diseases such as cancer, asthma, heart disease, respiratory illness, ear infections, and low birth weight. Offering a smoke-free environment is the right decision for the health and well-being of residents who live in close proximity to one another, but it also has real benefits to the property owner in reduced maintenance costs and improved safety.

For more information about the workshop or to register, please call (605) 371-1000 or register online.
