Strengthening Families Program (Ages 10-14)

Location: Carroll Institute 310 S 1st Ave. Sioux Falls, SD

Strengthening Families is a program for families with kids ages 10-14 that promotes communication skills, love with limits, and having fun! Any family that has kids ages 10-14 can join!

We come together for a meal at 5:30 p.m. and eat as a family. No prep work for you...just bring your family and eat! After the meal, parents and students and work on topics individually. For example, youth focus on dealing with peer pressure and having empathy for parents, and the parents learn more on loving with limits!

At 7:00 p.m., families come back together for a family session. They will work on communication skills and just having fun together! The program will wrap up at 8:00 p.m.

Better Choices, Better Health® SD is a chronic disease self-management workshop designed for adults living with any chronic conditions.

This workshop will be presented on six consecutive Thursdays, from October 12 through November 16, with each session lasting 2 1/2 hours

Workshop topics include:

  • Managing pain, fatigue and stress
  • Tips for healthy eating
  • Personal exercise plans
  • Relaxation techniques
  • Medication how-to's
  • Dealing with emotions
  • Working better with your doctor and care team

KEEP Healthy: Free Kidney Health Check

KEEP Healthy: Free Kidney Health Check

Location: Celebrate Community Church, 1000 S. Sycamore Avenue

Did you know that 26 million Americans have kidney disease, and many don't event know it?

Risk factors for kidney disease include diabetes and high blood pressure. Come to this FREE screening event from the National Kidney Foundation, with support from Avera Health and Sanford Health. You must be 18 years of age or older to participate.

You will take a risk factor survey and receive:

  • blood pressure check
  • body mass index (BMI) measurement
  • an opportunity to speak with a healthcare professional
  • free educational materials
  • ACR urine test for albumin (a type of protein) - only for individuals at risk of kidney disease

Ride, run, jump, and jam! Join Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation and participate in fitness-related activities all while having fun! This event is geared toward children ages 2-6. Children must be supervised by an individual 16 years of age or older. A 5-to-1 ratio of children to adults must be observed. No Registration required. This is a FREE event.

Join us for a weekend kickball tournament in the snow! A little cold weather won't ruin the fun. You'll feel like a big leaguer as this tournament will be played in prime time under the lights. T-shirts will be awarded to the top two finishing teams.
