Native American Genealogy Research in South Dakota

Virginia Hansen from the South Dakota State historical Society Archives will teach researchers about genealogy sources and techniques that are sometimes exclusive to Native Americans. She will discuss strategies and sources for establishing tribal affiliations and confirming familial relationships. Dakota Daughters

Follow the perspectives of three women as they describe actual events in the West from 1865-1890, leading up to the Wounded Knee Massacre. The women are Native American, African-American, and Euro-American.

Paper Tigers Screening and Discussion

'Paper Tigers' chronicles a year in the life of Lincoln High School in the community of Walla Walla, Washington. The kids who come to Lincoln have a history of truancy, behavioral problems and substance abuse. After Lincoln's principal is exposed to research about the effects of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), he decides to radically change the school's approach to discipline. Back Country Travel

Grab your pack and get ready! Our naturalist, Kirk, retired Army Infantry Ranger, will walk you through what equipment and supplies you should have with you and how to use them while traveling through the back country. You will also learn basic wilderness first aid in case of an emergency. This is a hands-on class, please dress for the weather. Lunch will be provided. All ages, recommended 8 and up, youth must be with an adult.
