Mobile Covid-19 Vaccination at Southeast Technical College

Location: Southeast Technical College Parking Lot (north of George S. Mickelson Center)

The Sioux Falls Health Department and Sioux Area Metro have partnered to bring mobile COVID-19 vaccines to Sioux Falls neighborhoods. Vaccines are available for individuals ages 5+.  Booster vaccines are available for individuals ages 18+. A parent or guardian must be present with children ages 5-17.

Look for the bus in the parking lot north of the George S. Mickelson Center. No appointment is necessary.  The COVID-19 is safe, effective and available at no cost to you. #giveitashotsiouxfalls

Stand Strong: Falls Prevention Screening (Ages 55+)

Location: Morningside Community Center, 2400 S. Bahnson Avenue

Most people are aware that the risk for falling increases with age. However, did you know that one in four people 65 and older fall each year? More than 95 percent of hip fractures are caused by older adult falls. Every 20 minutes in the U.S., an older adult dies as a result of a fall. This does not need to be YOU or your loved one! Falls are PREVENTABLE. Join us to discover if you are at risk for a fall and how to keep on Standing Strong. You will complete a free checklist, be observed walking by a nurse or physical/occupational therapist, and receive personalized education and recommendations to prevent a fall. This is a free screening, but registration required online or by calling (605) 367-8222.

Grandparent and Me Sports (Ages 4-5 and 55+)

Grandparent and Me Sports is a program that has been designed to introduce children ages four to five years old to a variety of sports, games, and group activities, all with the help of grandma or grandpa! A Breath of Fresh Air Multi-Unit Housing Workshop

Location: Virtual - Online

The SET-Free Coalition, South Dakota Multiunit Housing Association, American Lung Association, Pedigree Management & Courses, South Dakota Department of Health and Live Well Sioux Falls are hosting a free workshop for real estate professionals and for owners/managers of multiunit housing properties.

This virtual summit, taking place over two days, will address property management skills and current policy trends, including education on tobacco and other substances. The workshop will take place on February 15 from 1-4 Central Time (12-3pm Mountain Time) and on February 16 from 9am-1pm Central Time (8am-12pm Mountain Time). Anyone from across South Dakota is invited to attend. SIX free SDREC continuing education credits are available when attending both days.

This goes out to everyone that is looking for a good opportunity to socialize during these cold winter months. Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation is here to bring you a taste of summer in the midst of winter and provide you with a great opportunity to improve your social wellness. Bring a friend and come get a workout in by walking some laps around our gym, play some chair volleyball, or stay for our variety of fun yard games such as beanbags, shuffleboards, kan jam, ramp shot, and giant jenga that you can play from the comfort of our heated community center. Music and coffee will make this fun morning remind us of those warm summer days. The program is FREE, but registration is required online or by calling (605) 367-8222.

Stop the Bleed Training

Stop the Bleed Training

Location: Kenny Anderson Community Center, 3701 E. Third Street

Stop the Bleed training was developed to teach members of the public to quickly respond to someone bleeding, which can be a life-threatening situation. This class  takes approximately 45 minutes. Skills learned to stop bleeding are as important as CPR when a person’s heart stops and to Stop, Drop, and Roll in a fire. In this training, you will gain the ability to: Recognize life-threatening bleeding, provide immediate response to bleeding (direct pressure, wound packing, proper tourniquet use), and demonstrate ways to stop the bleeding. This FREE class is in partnership with the Sanford Health. Registration required.

Yin Stretch (Ages 18+)

Yin Stretch (Ages 18+)

Location: MariCar Community Center, 400 North Valley View Road

Yin is a deep stretch class where postures are held for two to seven minutes to help stretch body parts such as fascia, tendons, and ligaments while stressing joints and activating meridians in traditional Chinese medicine. The practice creates greater flexibility and mobility. We recommend this class to anyone that lives an active lifestyle, and believe this could benefit all athletes, yogis, as well as those dealing with chronic low back pain. $8 per participant.
