Earth Day 2015: Empowering Energy Conservation in Sioux Falls

Apr 17, 2015

Earth Day 2015: Empowering Energy Conservation in Sioux Falls

Join the City of Sioux Falls in celebrating Earth Day 2015 on Wednesday, April 22!

Sioux Area Metro (SAM) will offer free rides on fixed routes (1‒25) all day on April 22. Taking public transit is an easy way to help the environment because it reduces the amount of traffic congestion on the roads and vehicle emissions in the air. As an added bonus, you get some of your daily physical activity by walking or biking to and from the bus stop!

The City of Sioux Falls will also host a free Earth Day event on April 22 at 6 p.m. at the Belbas Theater of the Washington Pavilion. The theme of the event is “Empowering Energy Conservation in Sioux Falls.”

The event will include educational booths featuring ways residents can reduce their energy consumption as well as keynote speaker Craig Moody, who will give the presentation, “Talking the Talk on Climate Change.” In addition, the event will feature a recycled art contest highlighting work from local college students, free hors d’oeuvres and door prizes.

“Earth Day gives us an opportunity to educate the community about many topics related to sustainability including energy conservation," says Jessica Lantgen, Sustainability Coordinator for the City. "We are inviting residents to join us in celebrating the 45th annual Earth Day to learn more about ways they can reduce their environmental impact.”
