Help Sioux Falls Residents Eat Well and Live Well

Nov 03, 2014

Help Sioux Falls Residents Eat Well and Live Well

Join us for an interactive, informative afternoon focused on how we can help Sioux Falls residents Live Well and Eat Well.

This program on Wednesday, November 12, will be held from 1-5 p.m. at the Holiday Inn City Centre in Downtown Sioux Falls. The featured speaker is Sharon Thornberry, Community Food Systems Manager for the Oregon Food Bank.

While Sioux Falls enjoys a strong economy and high quality of life, the percentage of people consuming a healthy number of fruits and vegetables has declined. Limited access to nutritious foods, and relatively easier access to less nutritious foods, may be linked to poor diets and obesity, particularly in youth. Building stronger community food systems results in healthier individuals, food economies and communities.

The program is FREE, but registration is required by emailing livewell@siouxfalls.org or by calling (605) 367-8286.

About Sharon Thornberry: Sharon is an advocate for community food systems, rural communities and anti-hunger work. She grew up on farms in Iowa and North Carolina, was active in 4-H and Girl Scouts and was one of the first female members of Future Farmers of America. She is the creator of FEAST, the nationally-recognized community food systems organizing program.

If an ADA accommodation is needed, please contact the Human Relations Office at (605) 367-8745 or humanrelations@siouxfalls.org at least 72 hours before the event.
