Join the “Beat the Blues” Winter Marathon

With winter now at the halfway point, Live Well Sioux Falls is encouraging residents to beat the winter blues and get outside for some healthy and fun activities.

The Beat the Blues Winter Marathon challenges you to complete a full marathon—26 miles!— between January 22 and February 28. Get outdoors and move at your own pace, tracking your miles as you walk, run, bike, snowshoe, ski, and more! Or, simply play outside for 30 minutes to equal one mile.

If being outdoors is a challenge, you can also count miles by walking indoors (check out the Sioux Falls Community Centers!) or by water walking or swimming at the Midco® Aquatic Center.

You can even challenge yourself to see how many marathons you can complete during the program. Return your mileage log form(s) by 5 p.m. on Friday, March 2, and you may be eligible for a prize!

A Winter Marathon Moonlight Mile event will wrap up the program on Friday, March 2, at The Outdoor Campus, 4500 South Oxbow Avenue, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The evening will include walking (or snowshoeing) a trail beneath the full moon, healthy snacks, and prize drawings.

P.S. If you're going to be walking to track your miles, consider joining the Live Well Sioux Falls team participating in the American Public Health Association's 1 Billion Steps Challenge.
