June is Men’s Health Month
Jun 12, 2019
Did you know there was a month entirely dedicated to raising awareness for issues impacting the health and wellness of men and boys? Well, there is....and June is it!
On average, men die five years younger than women. Men also comprise the majority of workplace injuries, they are less likely to be insured, and they are far less likely to see a doctor for preventive care. All of this impacts their roles as fathers, husbands, employees and active members of their communities. Make sure the men in your life are living well by:
- Reminding them to get preventive screenings like blood pressure checks, cholesterol and blood sugar checks and prostate cancer screenings. These can not only save you money in the long run...they can also save your life.
- Encouraging them to get - and stay - active! It's summer time...perfect for shutting off the TV and getting outside to move. Remember, the target is 30 minutes of moderate to vigorous activity at least 5 days a week.
- Prompting them to eat their fruits & veggies!
- Talking about family history of any health conditions so they are well-informed when they go to the doctor (perhaps you can even help them by scheduling that appointment!).
Remember, many health conditions can be prevented or detected early with regular checkups. Make prevention a priority! #GetChecked #MensHealthMonth
