Ring in a Healthier You: Kiosk Promotes Healthy Behaviors

Live Well Sioux Falls encourages residents to make healthy lifestyle choices each day, and now they have a new way to spread the word.

A Live Well health kiosk encourages residents to “Ring in a Healthier You” by engaging in behaviors such as eating fruits and vegetables, getting regular physical activity, having a blood pressure check, or not smoking. The kiosk features a bell for people to ring if they have taken part in one of those healthy behaviors. A takeaway card provides information on how to get health tips from Live Well Sioux Falls through their website, www.new.new.livewellsiouxfalls.org, and through social media like Facebook and Twitter.

“Many chronic diseases are preventable,” says Mary Michaels, Healthy Community Specialist with the Sioux Falls Health Department. “By making healthy lifestyle choices, people can greatly reduce their risk for diseases such as heart disease and diabetes. The new kiosks are a great way for Live Well Sioux Falls and area businesses to celebrate those healthy choices that people are making.”

Tires Tires Tires in Sioux Falls is the first business to host the Live Well Sioux Falls kiosk, using American Heart Month as a theme for its “Love Your Heart, Love Your Car” promotion.

“There are many similarities between caring for your health and caring for your vehicle,” says Gary Michaels, general manager at Tires Tires Tires. “Everything from changing oil, routine maintenance, and checking tire pressure will help extend the life of your car. In the same way, a healthy diet, physical activity, and routine checks like blood pressure help you live a longer, healthier life.”

Live Well Sioux Falls offers many online resources to help residents on the path to good health, including a recipe center, online calendar of healthy events, and information to help people Breathe Well, Eat Well, Feel Well, Move Well, and Work Well. People can also sign up for a monthly e-newsletter through the website.

“We hope this will be a fun way for people to learn more about our resources,” says Mary Michaels, “and to celebrate the steps they are taking to live well.”

If a business or organization would like to host the Live Well kiosk for a special promotion, they can email livewell@siouxfalls.org or call 605-367-8286.
