Location: Lake Lorraine

The Lake Lorraine Farmers Market is entering its third season in 2021 and is the only farmers market in western Sioux Falls. Our vendors sell a variety of goods, from plants to seasonal vegetables to meat to baked goods and more! Different activities are also planned throughout the market season with some vendors making special appearances. Weekly from 4-7 p.m. on the east side of the lake. Parking is available in the lot south of Hobby Lobby.

South Dakota Voices for Peace is partnering with South Dakota Urban Indian Health to host monthly COVID-19 vaccine drive-thrus at the Empire Mall from August through October.

FREE COVID-19 vaccines at the JCPenney entrance

  • No ID needed
  • Vaccine is Moderna 2-shot
  • 18+ only
  • $30 for each person getting vaccinated (people will receive $15 after each shot)

       AND—refer someone else to get a vaccine and receive $20!

More than 4.5 million Americans need blood transfusions each year. That’s 1 transfusion every 2 seconds! 

The team at Siouxland Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery is excited to partner with the Sioux Falls Community Blood Bank to launch our third annual blood drive. Help us save lives by volunteering to give blood. Our community depends on donors like you to keep our national blood supply available to everyone who needs it.

DONOR REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be at least 17 years old (or 16 with a signed Parental Consent Form).
  • Must be in good general health and weigh at least 110 pounds.
  • Eat a healthy meal and drink plenty of fluids prior to donating blood.
  • Bring valid ID to donation appointment.

A Matter of Balance Coach Training

A Matter of Balance Coach Training

Location: Our Savior's Lutheran Church; 909 W. 33rd Street

A Matter of Balance program is seeking volunteer coaches!

Chances are you know someone who has fallen or who is afraid of falling. A Matter of Balance is a proven program designed to help people manage concerns about falls and increase physical activity. Sanford trauma, geriatrics, and volunteer departments are seeking volunteers to help provide this program to residents in the area.

What do you need to be a coach?

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Enthusiasm, dependability and a willingness to lead small groups of older adults (8-12 people)
  • Ability to lead low to moderate level exercise
  • Lead 2 classes within the year
  • Coaches will lead in pairs

Once you are trained, the Matter of Balance classes for participants are held either once a week for 8 weeks or twice a week for 4 weeks for 2 hours each.

International Overdose Awareness Day Event

International Overdose Awareness Day Event

Location: Raven Industries Amphitheater, 205 E. 6th Street (across from the Arc of Dreams)

Each day 223 people die of drug overdose deaths in the United States. Come to this free, evening event centered on awareness and education, which will include presenters sharing stories of loss and recovery with a remembrance ceremony. At the conclusion of the remembrance ceremony, luminaries will be placed to remember lives lost to overdose followed by lighting the Arc of Dreams.


Speakers include: Mayor Paul TenHaken, Angela Kennecke, Alicia Steinfurth, Marcia Lenard, Jessica Pfau, and Mary Ann & Alexa Giebink. To share your loved ones name during the ceremony, register at www.emilyshope.foundation/new-events.

The public is invited to attend this event, which is sponsored by the Emily's Hope, Face It Together, Helpline Center and Ransom Church, with support from The Flower Mill, Beal Distributing and Raven Industries.
