A Lifetime of Discovery Awaits: Celebrate Park and Recreation Month
Jul 03, 2018
Get ready to unlock a lifetime of discovery this month with Sioux Falls Park and Recreation and the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA). July is Park and Recreation Month, and we are celebrating by highlighting all Sioux Falls has to offer!
Since 1985, America has celebrated July as the nation’s official Park and Recreation Month. Created by NRPA, Park and Recreation Month specifically highlights the vital and powerful role local parks and recreation facilities play in health and wellness and social equity efforts in communities all across the country.
This year, it’s all about highlighting the unique—and sometimes unknown— parks and recreation offerings. Did you know our park system offers amenities like a Frisbee golf course, Japanese gardens, Pickleball courts, and cross-country skiing in the winter? All year round, there are innovative health and wellness opportunities at Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation facilities. This month, get out and discover everything that is offered at our parks!
For starters, you can check out this month’s 80 in ’18 featured parks.
- Falls Park
- Frank Olson Park
- Great Bear Recreation Park
- Lien Park
- Mansor-Pioneer Park
- McKennan Park
- Phillips Avenue Plaza
- Sertoma Park
Each month in 2018, Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation releases a list of featured parks. Visit each of those parks and take a picture of yourself with an identifiable landmark. Post your photos on Facebook or Twitter with #80in18 to enter the monthly prize drawing for things like swim passes and gift cards from our partners. At the end of the year, we will draw for a grand prize winner who visited all 80 parks in 2018. More information and contest rules are available at www.siouxfalls.org/80in18.
