Physical Health

The English word health comes from the Old English word hale, meaning "wholeness, being whole, sound or well."

Health is also defined as the general condition of the body or mind, especially in terms of the presence or absence of illnesses, injuries, or impairments.

To take care of our physical health, we need to pay attention to things like:

  • Good nutrition - following dietary guidelines
  • Exercise - getting regular physical activity each day
  • Muscular strength
  • Flexibility
  • Healthy weight
  • Adequate sleep
  • Getting regular medical, dental and vision check-ups
  • Avoiding harmful behaviors - such as responsible alcohol use, avoiding drug use, responsible sexual behavior, and wearing seat belts and helmets

Taking care of your physical health can help reduce risk for disease.
