Summer Meals Program
May 17, 2019
School is almost out, and summer is right around the corner! This means fun for many children...but for others, it may mean not having access to healthy meals like they do at school.
This is where the USDA Summer Food Service Program comes in. This year, 11 sites around Sioux Falls will offer free meals to kids up to age 18 in the Sioux Falls area. All kids are welcome, there is no paperwork and no income eligibility. Meals at various sites include breakfast, lunch, snack and supper, and they are offerred Monday through Friday, excluding July 4, giving kids a chance to still have healthy and nutritious food while school is not in session.
The Sioux Falls Food Council partnered with the organizations offerring summer meals to create a handout that includes all summer meal sites and also has information about the Summer BackPack program offerred by Feeding South Dakota. For more information on the Summer BackPack program visit www.feedingsouthdakota.org.
Another great option for kids this summer is the ability to ride the bus for free with the Freedom Pass. For more information on the Freedom Pass click here or call 605-367-7151.
For details on the Summer Meals program sites please download the handout below you can also text 'FOOD' to 877-877 and provide your address to learn which sites in Sioux Falls are closest. If you need results in Spanish text 'COMIDA' to 877-877.
Have a happy, safe and healthy summer!
