There’s Still Time to Train: Preparing for the Sioux Falls Marathon Races (or other runs!)

The Sioux Falls Marathon is coming up on September 11, and there's still time to train for the races!

With about five weeks until race day, you can still go for gold, or simply a finisher’s medal in one of three different races. If a full or half marathon is not your speed, walk or run the Miracle 5K, it’s perfect for first-time racers and participants of all ages or experience levels. If you’re interested in registering for these races - or any runs in the future - read our tips below to help you get started.

  1. Register for the Race. Rather than putting off registration until you’re “ready,” choose a race and sign up early. Not only will you likely receive a discount on registration fees, your commitment will motivate you to train each day.

  2. Set Realistic Goals: Always remember to set goals that are unique to you and your abilities. Do not measure other’s progress against your own.

  3. Get Your Gear Together: Wear clothes that fit well and that are comfortable for walking or running. Don't forget about finding good quality shoes! New gear can be a great motivator or act as a reward for reaching your goals.

  4. Get Started: If you don’t know where to start, find a plan that fits your current abilities and make a promise to stick to it. Remember, it’s not about how fast you walk or run. Listen to your body and go at your own pace.

  5. Find your Team: Tell others - friends, family, and coworkers – about the race and your training to build a network of support. They will both motivate you and keep you accountable.
