Stand Strong: A Matter of Balance Falls Prevention Program (8 sessions)

Location: Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 909 W. 33rd Street
This award-winning program is designed to teach practical strategies to manage falls and increase activity levels. The class meets for 8 Mondays, from April 4-May 23, 2022.
Participants will learn to:
- Set goals for increasing activity
- Reudce fall risks at home
- Exercise to increase strength and balance
- Safely get up if you fall
Who should attend?
- Anyone interested in improving balance, flexibility and strength
- Anyone who has fallen in the past
- Anyone who has restricted activities because of falling concerns

Mental Health 101: Adults

Location: Midco Aquatic Center
This class goes out to all adults ages 18 and up who are interested in learning more about mental health and the resources available in Sioux Falls. This session will provide education on the warning signs someone may be struggling with mental health issues, prevalence of mental health conditions within America and our region, and the importance of self-care. The group will also discuss the different resources that are available within the Sioux Falls area and teach participants some basic coping skills they might find helpful in managing emotions. This class is in partnership with Avera Behavioral Health. Registration required (#400030).

Teen Futsal

Partnering with Dakota Alliance Soccer, we bring you Futsal! Futsal is a fast-paced version of soccer with a couple of twists. One of the major differences is that Futsal is played indoors. The game is played 5 vs.5 rather than a traditional 11 vs. 11 soccer match, giving everyone plenty of playing time to make a difference! Futsal also utilizes a special weighted indoor ball to ensure maximum control. Join us for some fun, and bring your family to join in at the end! Don’t have a team? No sweat; we will find a team for you to join, for this “pickup game” format. All levels are welcome. Recommended for ages 13-17. Registration required (Class #490001).

Stand Strong: Stay Active & Independent for Life (SAIL) 12-week Program

Location: Sanford Wellness Center, 49th Street & Oxbow Avenue
SAIL is a strength, balance, and fitness class specifically designed for adults 65+. Participants improve balance and mobility, reduce risk of falls and improve quality of life.
Who should attend?
- Older adults who are active and wish to maintain or increase their fitness level.
What to expect?
- One hour of exercise, two times/week
- 12 week session
- Participants can sit or stand. Exercises are adapted for varying levels of physical ability.
- Participants receive a copy of “SAIL: An Information Guide for Adults 65+”

Big Sioux River Greenway Cleanup

Location: Various Parks Around Town
The City of Sioux Falls will host the seventh annual community-wide Big Sioux River Greenway Cleanup on Saturday, April 23, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Volunteers participating in the past events have removed thousands of pounds of garbage and recyclables from the banks of the Big Sioux River and along the recreation trail. Pre-event registration is not required but appreciated. Register for the event at siouxfalls.org/green.
“This event provides a great opportunity for family members, friends, and coworkers to get together the day after Earth Day to help keep our river and community clean and healthy,” says Sustainability Coordinator Holly Meier.
Volunteers can choose what areas of the Big Sioux River Greenway they would like to help clean up and arrive any time between 10 a.m. and 12 noon to donate as much time as they would like. Coordinators will be stationed at all eight locations. Gloves, trash bags, and maps will be provided. The following locations have been selected as meeting areas:

Elmen Park Trailhead Shelter—3200 West 12th Street
Falls Park West Shelter—131 East Falls Park Drive
Cherry Rock Park Shelter—1800 East 18th Street

Youth Ultimate Flag Football (Ages 6-9)

This program is for kids ages 6-9.
Are you missing being out on the football field scoring touchdowns with your friends? If so, gather your teammates and come play some flag football! Don't have a team? No sweat; we will find a team for you to join, so all are welcome! Registration is required. Flag football is FREE.
